Mural in Alcudia de Crespins
Origen is the title of this mural project carried out during the MAUAC Urban Art Festival, organized by the City Council of Alcúdia de Crespins. This intervention arises as a visual reflection on the beginnings of life, addressing both human and animal creation from a symbolic and poetic perspective.
From the beginning, the approach was to connect with the essential: that which links us to the earth, to nature, to instinct. The mural aims to give prominence back to that first vital impulse, to the moment when everything begins to take shape. Through a scene full of organic elements, I was interested in representing not only an instant of birth, but the mystery and beauty of the invisible processes that give rise to life in its multiple expressions.
The mural is located on a large wall, which was visibly deteriorated. Far from seeing this state as an obstacle, I decided to integrate it as an active part of the work. The imperfections of the support -cracks, irregularities, remains of old layers of paint, humidity and wear- offered a visual field rich in textures. Instead of covering it completely, I chose to let these traces of time coexist with the painting, generating a direct interaction between the wall and the work, as if both were fused into a single narrative body. This approach adds a layer of depth to the mural: it speaks not only of the biological origin, but also of the material memory of the place.
Visually, the work is composed of a central figure that evokes a creature in a state of gestation or transformation, surrounded by vegetal elements, roots, leaves and fluids that suggest fertility, growth and connection with the earth. The color palette is warm, earthy, with touches of light emerging at strategic points to reinforce the sense of life that is about to emerge. The choice of colors also responds to a desire to blend in with the environment, to respect the character of the space without imposing a presence that erases or contradicts it.
The execution process was particularly intuitive. I worked guided by the forms that already existed on the surface: humidity stains, roughness and irregular edges. These “imperfections” served me as a base to compose the mural, as if the wall already contained, in a latent state, the image that was about to appear. This dialogue with the support was key to preserve its unique character and enhance it as an essential part of the message.
“Origen” is also proposed as a gesture of resignification of public space. The wall, previously degraded and without apparent value, becomes a point of artistic and symbolic interest. By intervening it, it is not only visually transformed, but also invites people passing through the area to stop, look and connect with a message that involves us all: the awareness of our link with nature and with the vital processes that sustain us.
Participating in the MAUAC has been an enriching experience both on an artistic and human level. This kind of festivals offer a necessary platform for contemporary art, especially muralism, to dialogue directly with the urban space, bringing identity, beauty and reflection to towns and cities. I feel grateful to have been able to contribute with this work to the visual and emotional fabric of Alcúdia de Crespins, and I hope that “Origen” remains as a seed of inspiration, as an invitation to remember where we come from and what invisible forces connect us all.
