Mural in Ferrol: A work that denounces and celebrates nature in the framework of the Meninas de Canido 2021 festival.
During the prestigious 2021 edition of the Meninas de Canido festival in Ferrol, I had the honor of making a mural that is part of an artistic and vindicative project that has been growing, participating in four consecutive editions. This festival, which combines various disciplines of urban art, painting, sculpture, music, theater and more, seeks to revitalize and transform a neighborhood that, at the time, faced abandonment and decay.
My participation in this edition focused on the creation of a work entitled “Menina Naturaleza”, a mural that invites us to reflect on the relationship between human beings and nature, and on the importance of valuing and protecting our natural environment. The piece seeks to convey a deep and urgent message:
“Nature is able to teach us its compassion and its greatest power almost at the same time, even though human beings believe they are the superior animal on the planet, nature shows us that with a simple snap of the fingers it can change everything.
We are killing you, nature, and therefore, we are killing ourselves.
You keep us present how ephemeral and beautiful life is, and at times cruel at the same time. You don’t understand right and wrong, and that’s how you take people away overnight and remind us how precious it is to be alive.
Love the people around you and cherish the time we have left as the greatest treasure of your life.”
This message reflects the duality of nature: its beauty and teaching power, but also its vulnerability to human action. The work visualizes this relationship through symbolic elements that represent the strength and fragility of the natural environment, seeking to create awareness and empathy in those who contemplate it.
The mural is integrated in a context of social and urban transformation, in a neighborhood that has been revitalized thanks to the creative energy of the festival. Participating in Meninas de Canido not only allowed me to contribute my artistic vision, but also to collaborate with other artists and the local community, in a space where art becomes a tool for vindication and hope.
Throughout these four years, my presence at the festival has been an opportunity to explore different styles and themes, always with the intention of generating impact and promoting social dialogue. The response from the community and visitors has been very positive, as these works not only beautify the neighborhood, but also convey messages that invite reflection and change.
In short, this mural in Ferrol, framed in the Meninas de Canido festival, represents a call to action: to take care of our planet, to value life and to recognize that, although we are part of nature, we are also responsible for its well-being. For me, each intervention in this festival is an opportunity to contribute to a more conscious and respectful world, using art as a means to raise awareness and transform.
